Кратко упатство за оживување на Nokia N800.
I got my Nokia N800 last week and I already messed it up to a degree that it won’t boot anymore.
I wasn’t sure what caused the problem but after going thru the Internet Tablet Talk Forums I’m pretty sure it was the busybox update (don’t install the update!). I’m posting a short HOWTO recover from a situation like this because I didn’t found a step by step guide on how to get your Nokia working again.
First of all you need to get the flashing utility from maemo’s web site.
In some cases putting the device in recovery mode and switching the recovery mode off later gets the job done, but unfortunately It didn’t help me. Anyhow, if you want to try this method first here’s how you do it:
If the device boots, uninstall the update and reboot it again, this time you have to clear all of the R&D flags, you can do that by typing: ./flasher-3.0 --clear-rd-flags=no-lifeguard-reset
You should get something like this in your terminal:
Suitable USB device not found, waiting
USB device found found at bus 005, device address 011
Found device RX-34, hardware revision 1301
NOLO version 1.1.3
Version of 'sw-release': RX-34_2007SE_2.2006.51-6_PR_MR0
Cleared R&D flags: 0008
If this doesn’t work, only thing left to do is to flash the damn thing. A guide on how to do this for the N700 and N800 can be found here.
Basically all you have to do is to download the image and run ./flasher-3.0 -F RX-34_2007SE_3.2007.10-7_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin -f -R.
The process is very short and you get your Nokia back, no apps and no settings of course but you should always backup things with the backup tool to make life easier after a shit hits the fan situation like this one.
There were a lot of people that reported problems with their N800 that couldn’t be resolved by flashing and had to ship their Nokia’s back to where they got them from. I’m sure happy that I’m not one of them. Looks like Nokia only cares about marketing and sales, no real information on how to get things back on track if you screw up something. No real support from Nokia except community mailing lists and Forums like Internet Tablet Talk. They already dropped support for the N770 so I’m not even sure if they ll “support” the N800 next time a new model comes up. I hope that mine doesn’t go crazy someday cause I got it from the States and I’d have to pay tons of money just for shipping.
